8-Day Scalesia Lodge and Finch Bay
Combined Galapagos Land Tour
Day 1: Flight Baltra- Isabela Island (L-D)
Upon arrival, our representative will be waiting for you at the airport to assist you in everything you need. In the afternoon, we go 14 km from Puerto Villamil to Sucre's Cave. Here, we'll go for a walk and see a bit of the vegetation and some typical plants. Reach Mango viewpoint, and enjoy the amazing view of the southern part of Isabela Island while in the company of finches. We'll head back to Scalesia Lodge to rest and prepare for the next day.
Day 2: Volcan Sierra Negra and Volcan Chico (B- BL-D)
After breakfast, we start our second day of the program, going to one of the main attractions on Isabela – the volcanoes. In just a 6-hour hike, we'll visit both the Sierra Negra Volcano and Volcan Chico. The last eruption of the Sierra Negra was in 2005, and its crater is one of the largest in the world, with a breathtaking diameter of 10km. Close by, we find Volcan Chico, which is surrounded by a volcanic floor that gives it an almost lunar landscape. In this extraordinary place, you can enjoy a great view and have your box lunch before returning to the lodge.
Day 3: Tintoreras AM and Beach PM (B-L-D)
Tintoreras is a great place to go and see many beautiful animals, like pelicans, marine iguanas, Galapagos penguins, turtles, and sea lions resting or swimming around. This group of islets features lava fissures, lava flows, sandy beaches, and mangroves, all around stunning coves. It's truly a natural paradise where we can enjoy the day. Then we return to the lodge for a delicious lunch, and in the afternoon we'll have some beach time at Puerto Villamil, where you can do kayaking, biking, surfing, or simply resting with the view.
Day 4: Isabela – Baltra – Santa Cruz Chico (B-L-D)
In the morning, you fly from Isabela Island to Baltra Island. Upon arrival, the hotel naturalist guide will meet you and transfer you to the yacht. After a short briefing, we go to North Seymour Island, where we'll do a walking tour to see iguanas or sea lions soaking in the sun, and also blue-footed boobies flying, flittering, or nesting along the path. Lunch is served on board the yacht, and later we sail to the Itabaca Channel, where a bus will be waiting to drive us south on Santa Cruz Island to Finch Bay Hotel, where we can enjoy the facilities and rest for the next day of adventure.
Day 5: Santa Cruz Island (B-L)
Early in the morning and after breakfast, we go to the highlands of Santa Cruz to El Manzanillo. This area is the natural path tortoises use while migrating to the humid locations of the highland region in the garua drizzle season and also their way down during the wet season. This place has lots of nature around and tortoises abound. Lunch will be served here while we enjoy the great view.
We continue our trip to a small farm where sugar cane, cocoa beans, and coffee are grown organically and prepared traditionally. We can taste some of the products while learning some traditional farming practices. Once we finish, we return to the hotel to enjoy the facilities, go to the beachfront, or get suggestions for other activities.
Day 6: Santa Fe Island (B-L)
On this day, we'll see a beautiful lagoon with turquoise water, surrounded by islets! After a wet landing, we will go for a short walk. First at the beach, we can see sea lions lazing around; then, as we continue on our journey, the gorgeous Galapagos hawks fly around, but our purpose is to see the native land iguana of Santa Fe, which has different colors, from brown to beige, and also dragon-like spines. After our tour, we can swim at the beautiful beach, snorkel among the diverse marine life, or rest on the warm sand. Lunch will be served onboard the yacht.
Day 7: Divine Bay and Charles Darwin Research Station (B)
After breakfast, we go to Divine Bay, a gorgeous place with mangrove trees and ancient lava paths. We can discover it by boat or if you feel more adventurous you can take a tandem kayak. We will snorkel in the morning in a very nice spot full of marine life. Next, we’ll go to the small dock to get to Punta Estrada. Here, we take a short walk to reach “Playa de los Perros” (Dog Beach), a majestic beach where marine iguanas nest. Additionally, there is a natural spot where young white sharks swim, and we’ll be able to see them from above. We return to the Finch Bay Hotel for lunch, and in the afternoon we’ll go to the Charles Darwin Research Station and learn more about the giant tortoise breeding program. Once we finish here, you’ll have free time so you can enjoy the lively atmosphere of town, the hotel facilities, or the beach in front of it.
Day 8: Santa Cruz - Baltra Chico (B)
After a delicious farewell breakfast, we'll go to the Baltra airport to return to mainland Ecuador. On the way to the airport, we'll make one last short stop at the impressive Twin Pit Craters, a geological formation made of volcanic material, surrounded by different kinds of vegetation such as orchids, Scalesia trees, and ferns. After this visit, we continue on our way to the airport, where our representative will assist you in everything you need for the flight.
