DAY 1: GUAYAQUIL - QUITO Transfer in Airport - Hotel
DAY 2: GUAYAQUIL - QUITO / GALAPAGOS AM Baltra Airport Ferry crossing to Santa Cruz Island (10 min-ride). Arrival at Santa Cruz. Check-in at Red Mangrove Aventura Lodge. Lunch at Aventura Lodge PM Begin your Academy Bay Tour at "La Loberia", where you can snorkel with sea lions (optional). 40 min. navigation to "Tortuga Bay". As we enter the white sandy beach, we have a chance to observe different marine species like Sting Rays and baby Reef Sharks in the shallow waters of the Mangrove ecosystems. After swimming on the beach, we take a very short hike to the Marine Iguana nesting site. The walk back is through a Prickly Pear forest carpeted in crimson Sesuvium with black lava outcroppings, home to more marine iguana colonies. Private Dinner in your Ocean view Suite.
DAY 3: SANTA CRUZ - FLOREANA AM Wake-up call at 6:30 AM. Staff will call for your luggage. 7:00 AM for transport to dock. 8:00 AM Breakfast at Lodge 9:00 Tortoise Quest Tour. This tour begins with a trip to "Los Gemelos" (The Twins), two enormous collapsed lava chambers, an awe-inspiring visual reminder of the power of nature. The short, easy hike to each of the twins is teeming with endemic flora and fauna, including the remaining Scalesia Forest draped in Liverwort, large and small tree finches, the adorable Vermillion flycatcher and more. It's a wonderful introduction to the majestic power of the forces of natures and the great biodiversity of the Santa Cruz Highlands. Afterwards, we will visit a 600-acre private reserve where the giant Galapagos tortoises freely roam, graze, and sleep. You will be transported through this tropical environment by truck and from there; walk through fields to mingle with these gentle giants. PM Return to Aventura Lodge for Lunch. 2:00 PM Departure for Floreana. Sailing time is 1.5 - 2 hours. We will continue on to the main dock in Floreana. It's not unusual to see 'shoo' sea lions sleeping on the steps as we ascend. On the other side of the dock are black lava rocks typically full of the amazing rich red and turquoise colored Floreana marine iguanas. We will continue on to Red Mangrove Floreana Lodge for check-in. 7:30 Briefing and a BBQ Dinner. A gift basket awaits the Honeymooners at the cozy cabin of the Lodge.
DAY 4: FLOREANA – ISABELA AM Wake-up call at 6:30 AM. Staff will call for your luggage. 7:30 AM for transport to dock. 8:00 Breakfast. 8:30 AM You will depart on an open-air bus, that will transport you up to the highlands of Floreana, while your Naturalist Guide will begin to fill you in on the history of this Island, the first settled Island in the Galapagos. You will walk to see the Asilo de la Paz (Peace Asylum), where the spring is located, this is an artisan spring that attracted pirates, whalers, and later settlers to Floreana; as it was one of the very few year round sources of fresh water in the Galapagos. The Cueva de los Piratas (Pirate's Cave) is quite literally where pirates carved temporary shelter out of soft stone and it is also where one of the original settlers, Margret Wittmer, gave birth to a son, Rolf, who is still living. Some have almost jokingly referred to it as the 'Stonehenge' of Floreana due to its interesting shapes. Cerro Pajas (Bird Hill) truly lives up to its name with a multitude of Floreana Finches. It also offers spectacular views of the Island and the sea below. You will visit a tortoise reserve where you can watch many of the giant tortoises up close and personal. All the while, your Naturalist Guide will be pointing out the wildlife and filling you in on the colorful history of Floreana's first inhabitants, like the Baroness, and re-telling the legend of the "Floreana Mystery" which entails the mysterious deaths of several inhabitants, which have never been solved. Departure at 11:00 AM for Isabela. Sailing time is 1.5 - 2 hours. Arriving in the Port is a visual feast with stunning green and turquoise waters so clear, you can see sea turtles, sea lions, and penguins as though looking through glass. You will check-in to the Red Mangrove Isabela Lodge and have a hot, wholesome lunch. PM 2:30 PM. Departure to Las Tintoreras and Bay Tour. After lunch, you will board a smaller craft to head out across the Port, slowing down to view blue footed boobies and Galapagos penguins sharing the same rocky, sunny space, before turning a bend and docking. From there, we take an intriguing walk through a jagged 'AA' lava field, passing abundant colonies of marine iguanas, to see a small canal full of resting white-tipped reef sharks…if the tide is low, they are sometimes a mere 2 feet below the surface. Once you return to the dock, you can snorkel in this warm, shallow bay. Dinner in the Lodge at 7:00 PM
DAY 5: ISABELA AM Wake-up call 6:30 AM. Breakfast. Depart for Sierra Negra at 8:00 AM. 4x4 vehicles will drive you up through the transitional zone and into the humid highlands, which are the slopes of Volcan Sierra Negra, to the point of where vehicles can go no further. The trail is quite muddy and it does take a bit longer on foot. After a gorgeous ride / hike, we arrive to the caldera of Sierra Negra, the second largest in the world at 4 miles wide. PM After returning from Sierra Negra, you will have a late lunch around 2:30 pm. at Campo Duro. Campo Duro is a comfortable, whimsical, otherworldly paradise, the perfect place for lunch after Sierra Negra. Originally structured as a 3 year foster home for the tortoises, the National Park has discovered that the tortoises grow much larger and much faster at Campo Duro, so now; it is home to 43 tortoises ranging in age from 12 years to roughly 120 years old. After lunch, we will visit Cuevas de Sucre. This is one of the newer Park Sites. It used to be private property and is now called Las Cuevas de Sucre. Next, you will visit El Mango mirador, located near the road leading to the agricultural area of the Island; it is well known because the early settlers of the Island planted a Mango Tree there. 4:30 pm. Back to Isabela Lodge, at this time, many will choose to laze on the beautiful beach or climb on the rocks to take photos of the marine iguanas and blue-footed boobies. Briefing and dinner in the Lodge at 7:00 PM.
DAY 6: ISABELA - SANTA CRUZ AM 7:00 AM. Wake up call. 7:30 Staff will call for your luggage at to transport to dock. 8:00 AM Breakfast. 9:00 Departure for the tour. You begin with a drive out of town along the most beautiful, white sand, palm lined beach in all of the Galapagos; Long Beach. You will visit the "Muro de Las Lagrimas" (Wall of Tears), named for the backbreaking effort by prisoners who carried jagged volcanic rock long distances to construct a penal colony built there. On your way back to town, you will visit the Interpretation Center, a breeding center for the giant Galapagos Tortoises and the only place to view the rare, remaining flat backed (so-called 'tabletop' shells) Galapagos tortoises, many of which still bear the scars of volcanic activity from Sierra Negra. At roughly 11:00 AM, you will depart Isabela for Santa Cruz. Sailing time is 1.5 - 2 hours. PM 12:30 You arrive into Puerto Ayora. 1:00 PM. We will check into the Aventura Lodge and have lunch. 3:00 PM Visit to the fascinating Charles Darwin Research Station. 5:00 PM. A special massage session for the couple A unique Gourmet Honeymoon Dinner up in the highlands of Santa Cruz, an unforgettable mix of exotic flavors, spectacular scenery, and a great atmosphere! At Haras Bunga´s outdoors restaurant you will experience a gastronomically perfect romantic experience.
DAY 7: SANTA CRUZ - SAN CRISTOBAL AM No Wake-up call. Breakfast at any time Free morning to explore Puerto Ayora on your own. Lunch at the Lodge 2:00 AM Navigation to San Cristobal. Sailing time is 2 hours. Transfer to Casa Iguana Mar y Sol and check -in. PM At 4:30 we will visit La Loberia, home to a large sea lion colony and nursery. Here you'll enjoy the sea lions, marine iguanas, bird watching, and even Galapagos giant tortoises. Back to the Hotel. 7:30 Briefing and dinner at local restaurant to enjoy Ecuadorian cuisine.
DAY 8: SAN CRISTOBAL AM 7:00 AM. Wake-up call. 8:00 AM Breakfast at the Lodge. 8:30 AM Departure to Kicker Rock or Sleeping Lion, the two are similar. Sailing time is 2 hours. This gigantic rock raises 500 feet straight from the ocean. The remains of a lava cone eroded by the sea and two vertical rocks form a small channel that is navigable by small boats. This Galapagos landscape has become a favorite sight due to the many Tropicbirds, Frigates and boobies that fill the surroundings. It is great for scuba diving, so you will be invited to enjoy the beauty below the water. Under the sea the nearly crystal waters offer a brilliant show of colorful tropical fish and invertebrates. However, if you prefer to stay on the boat, you will not be bored, because of the diversity of birds around. Absolutely, this is the place for lots of pictures. Then Puerto Grande with its turquoises waters, and white sandy beach, will be the frame for your "on board lunch" and then we will disembark at this wondrous place to relax or swim. PM At 2:00 You will depart to Lobos Island. It is a seasonal nesting location for the Blue Footed Boobie, although the Basalt Island outcropping is named for the sea lions sometimes present there. At 4:00 pm. We return to San Cristobal. We will arrive to the Hotel around 5:00 pm. Free time on your own. At 7:30 Briefing and Dinner.
DAY 9: SAN CRISTOBAL - QUITO /GUAYAQUIL AM 8:00 AM. Wake up call. Staff will call for your luggage at 8:30 AM for transport to the airport. 9:00 Breakfast. 9:30 AM Departure to your last visit in Galápagos. You will walk about two kilometers to visit Cerro de las Tijeretas or Frigatebird Hill. Reached via a well marked out walking trail, this spot is the nesting ground for a number of Frigate bird species. From here, a trail leads down to Las Tijeretas Bay, nice place good photos as well. At 11:00 am. You will be picked up to be taken to the airport and by this time your luggage will be already checked in and a member of our staff will have your boarding passes issued already. Before entering the 'gate' to depart, you will pass through a line where you need to present your Migratory Control card which you will have carefully guarded and now have handy for the Immigration officer.
