5 and 4-day Hotel Packages with Scalesia Lodge

The Galapagos Islands are undoubtedly a unique and wonderful destination. Each island has its own beautiful highlights, but none are quite like Isabela. The biggest of the islands, Isabela is the only one formed by the merging of six different volcanoes; this seahorse-shaped island is one of the most pristine islands of the archipelago.

Discover the beauties of this island and its incredible sites from your comfortable accommodations at Scalesia Lodge, featuring one of a kind programs, superb service, and a hotel experience that is second to none.

Four or Five-day Program

Scalesia Lodge offers guests itineraries of 4 or 5 days to discover the magical beauty of Isabela Island.

Day 1

On the first day you will arrive to the island of Baltra, where you will be met by a representative of the Lodge. From Baltra you will be transferred to Santa Cruz and the small town of Puerto Ayora. From here you will take a speedboat to Isabela. At Galapagos we try to minimize the impact due to transportation, so few boats are allowed to sail the Islands – therefore, you will be sharing the boat with other visitors or residents.

Upon arrival to Isabela, you will be transferred to the Lodge, where you will enjoy an afternoon free for you to relax, explore the grounds, or take a short walk into Puerto Villamil, the main town on Isabela.

Lunch and dinner is included this day.

Day 2

Early in the morning after breakfast, we will take a boat ride to a small lava formation known as Las TIntoreras. The area gets its name from the Galapagos Reef shark known as “tintorera” that monitors the shallow waters of this lava formation. Here you will not only will be able to see how these beautiful islands were formed by the different eruptions that have occurred, but you will also be able to see this peaceful shark swimming in the shallows. Around this area you can practice snorkeling and see some of the unique species of the Galapagos such as the sea lions, blue footed boobies, and perhaps some Galapagos penguins.

In the afternoon we will return to the Lodge and have lunch. Later in the afternoon we will visit the Humedales – small ponds that have been formed on the island that are surrounded by species like mangroves and other aquatic plants. These ponds are often visited by flamingos, and depending on the season you might be able to spot them feeding on the small crustaceans from the lagoon.

Isabela is home of one of the breeding centers of the Galapagos: here the giant tortoises are grown in captivity until they are old enough to be released into the wild. We will learn more about the conservation program and get an up-close look at the gentle giants that gave their name to the Archipelago.

We will continue our visit at the Muro de las Lagrimas (The Wall of Tears), a wall built by the inmates of Isabela that were forced to work during their exile on the Islands.

We will spend the night at the Lodge and enjoy a delicious dinner here.

Day 3

On the third day of our visit, we will hike the Sierra Negra Volcano, home of the second largest crater in the world. Once we reach the rim of this impressive volcano, we will have a spectacular view of the inside of a crater. Dry lava flows that can reach up to 2 meters high can be spotted inside the crater. From here, you will get a magnificent panoramic view of the Island. We will have a box lunch and continue our hike to the Volcán Chico. This is a difficult hike on loose rocks and lava flows, so be sure to bring good shoes and water with you.

Afterwards we will return to the Lodge to rest and enjoy the beauty of Isabela’s highlands.

Day 4

Return to the Island of Baltra for your flight back to Quito or Guayaquil. Or, extend your stay on Isabela Island and continue discovering this modern paradise.

4 Day extended tour to “Los Tuneles”

On the extended day of your tour, we will visit the lava formations known as “Los Tuneles.” Here, the ocean has carved beautiful tubes into the solidified lava. These formations are a treasure trove of marine life where you will find countless species of tropical fish and other marine species. You can take advantage of this site to practice some snorkeling – you will be amazed with the abundant variety of marine life that dwells in these waters.

In the afternoon we will return to the Lodge, where you will have lunch. Then you will have the afternoon free to enjoy the idyllic beaches of Isabela for the last time.

Day 5

We will wake up early in the morning to take the boat back to Puerto Ayora, and then you will be transferred to the island of Baltra for your flight back to Quito or Guayaquil.
