Santiago Island covers an area of 585 square kilometers (226 sq mi) and reaches a maximum altitude of 907 meters (2,976 ft). It is home to a wide variety of iconic Galápagos wildlife, including marine iguanas, sea lions, fur seals, land and sea turtles, flamingos, dolphins, and sharks. Invasive pigs and goats, once introduced by humans and highly damaging to native species, have been successfully eradicated through conservation efforts.
