Map of San Cristóbal Island - Galápagos San Cristóbal Island (Chatham)

San Cristóbal was the first island in the Galápagos Archipelago visited by Charles Darwin during his voyage on the HMS Beagle. The island hosts a wide range of wildlife, including frigate birds, sea lions, giant tortoises, blue- and red-footed boobies, tropicbirds, marine iguanas, dolphins, and swallow-tailed gulls. Native vegetation includes Calandrinia galapagosa, Lecocarpus darwinii, and trees such as lignum vitae. The largest freshwater lake in the archipelago, El Junco Lagoon, is located in San Cristóbal's highlands.
